The Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation’s (OLGR) compliance officers are regularly out and about Statewide, keeping tabs on compliance at licensed premises.
Compliance inspections continue year round, but can be stepped up during busy times such as public holidays.
During the festivities, some premises can become extremely crowded and noisy, which can present challenges for licensees. As part of your obligation to provide responsible service of alcohol, you need to ensure staff are able to actively monitor patron behaviour and intoxication levels.
Your staff must not supply liquor to unduly intoxicated or disorderly patrons and must also ensure those patrons do not consume liquor. They need to be able to pick up the auditory and visual signals of intoxication. Encourage staff to look for these signs by engaging patrons in conversation while serving at the bar, or during other duties such as crowd control/security or glass collection.
While people do need to take individual responsibility for their actions, you are obliged to do everything you can to help your patrons stay in control of their alcohol consumption.
