Do I need to renew my RMLV training?

There has been a huge amount of misinformation and confusion surrounding this question in the popular press, largely due to the ‘Red Tape Reduction’ initiative which applies to cafes and small clubs.  Here are the facts:

YES – you DO have to have a current RMLV Certificate if you are one of the following:

  • An individual Licensee
  • An Approved Manager
  • A permit holder – if required by OLGR

Approved Managers are required by Licensed Clubs with over 2,000 members (including Social members) Commercial Hotels, Licensed Motels, Casinos and Commercial Special Facilities.

Restaurants and Cafes which are not open after midnight no longer have to have an Approved Manager – so theoretically, if you work in one of these establishments, you don’t have to renew your RMLV training.

If you choose not to renew, the onus is on you to keep up to date with  all the OLGR changes – and keep your staff up-to-date with the ongoing RSA changes as well.  OLGR will still visit your premises, and expect everything to be in order.  Fines for non-compliance increase every year, so you might see renewing your RMLV as a bit of an insurance policy – as well as a definite edge in the future employment market.
